Privacy
Velin keeps your files on your Mac. This page says plainly what the site and the app send, and where.
This site
velin.md collects nothing. It has no analytics, sets no cookies and has no forms.
The site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, it keeps standard request logs: your IP address, the page asked for, the time and your browser’s name. We don’t use them to follow anyone.
The app
Your notes and files stay on your Mac. Velin has no account, no analytics and no telemetry. It sends nothing about you or your files unless you send a problem report, below.
It makes one request of its own: each time it starts, it asks GitHub whether a newer version is out. That request carries the app’s version; GitHub sees your IP address and the time. No ID, no cookies, nothing from your space. When you choose to update, the new version downloads from GitHub too. Turn the check off in Settings → General; Check for Updates in the Velin menu still works by hand.
Anything else Velin fetches, you asked for: an image from a web address in a note, a theme pack from a link, or a dashboard that reads from the web, like the weather and markets templates. Those requests go only to the address in the note, link or dashboard.
Reporting a problem
In Velin, Help → Report a Problem… opens a short form. Nothing leaves your Mac until you press Send Report. Then the report goes to our own server, reports.velin.md, and holds only:
- the title and text you write
- your email, only if you enter one
- a screen capture of the Velin window, only if “Include screen capture” stays ticked
- the Velin and macOS versions, your Mac’s model, the window’s size and which modules are on
After a crash, Velin asks once whether to send the crash report macOS made. It goes only if you send it. We don’t store IP addresses with reports, and Velin has no analytics or telemetry of any kind.
When anything new sends data, this page says so first.
